Kim looks very determined to make the most of her last year on tour as she spared no mercy for the young Russian who had just reached the Hobart final last week. Kim started the match by winning the first 8 points of the match. Although she had some difficulty landing her first serves in, Kim wasn't troubled much by the unexperienced Russian. Kim faced one break point on her serve but saved it. Bardina looked lost and very inhibited in the huge Rod Laver Arena. Overall, Kim was really timing the ball well and switched between defense and offense marvellously. At the end, Bardina can only smile as she was totally outclassed by a more superior opponent.
Kim's next round opponent is Japan's Akiko Morigami who had a tough 3 sets win over Tsvetana Pironkova. Kim lost a set last year in Rome to the petite Japanese. But Kim looks to be at the form of her life and will most probably cruise through. With Martina Hingis cruising through her first round too, Kim will need to worry about the Swiss Miss' form as they are seeded to meet in the quarter-finals. However, let's not look too far ahead and concentrate on the next match. Good luck Kim against Akiko! Keep up the good form!
