Top seed Flavia Pennetta sailed into the quarterfinals of the Mexican Open on Wednesday with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Julia Schruff.
The Italian needed just an hour to book her place in the last eight with a comprehensive victory over the No. 122 ranked Schruff.
Pennetta will face off against the eighth seeded Edina Gallovits on Thursday for a place in the semifinals. The Romanian cleared her path through to the quarters with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Petra Cetkosova of the Czech Republic.
In other action, the second seeded Frenchwoman Alize Cornet beat Mexico's Melissa Torres Sandoval 6-2, 6-0.
No. 7 seed Kaia Kanepi needed three sets to see off the challenge of Lourdes Dominguez Lino 6-7 (1), 6-1, 6-3. But the fifth seeded Italian Sara Errani was eliminated by Mariya Koryttseva who scored a 7-5, 6-1 upset.
