Top seed Flavia Pennetta is closing in on yet another final at the Mexican Open after a straight sets victory over Edina Gallovits on Thursday.
The Italian needed just an hour and sixteen minutes to earn an impressive 7-6 (4), 6-1 victory over the tough No. 8 seed from Romania.
Pennetta has appeared in the final of this event every year for the past four years, but she has managed to win the tournament just the one time back in 2005.
Pennetta will come up against the dangerous Estonian Kaia Kanepi in semifinal action on Friday.
Kanepi came through a tough duel with Romanian Sorana Cirstea in a match lasting two and a quarter hours, winning 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 (6).
The other semifinal will be fiercely contested between Alize Cornet and Jill Craybas.
The second seeded Cornet advanced to the last four with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Mariya Koryttseva; Craybas needed little more than an hour to beat Iveta Benesova 6-4, 6-1.
